Pryce Teeba
"Pryce Teeba (Kasirye Alfred) has rapped out of Kampala since 2007, breaking through with "Side Zeno," the 2015 single that won Song of the Year at the inaugural UG Hip Hop Awards. He's taken Artist of the Year twice since — 2017 and again at the 2025 UG Hip Hop Awards — and closed 2025 out with "Marinate," a 14-track album carrying tracks like "HipHop Mukyala" (with Akubaba and THE HOMMIE). Once signed to Dustville Records, he now calls his sound simply "Real Life Experience": freestyle verses about his own past, present, and future, built on what he calls pure pen game."
Kasirye Alfred grew up in Kampala and started making music in 2007, well before Uganda's hip-hop scene had any kind of formal industry around it. Outside the booth he played soccer; inside it, he built his name the old way — mixtapes. His debut, Kiwedde, dropped in July 2014, followed a year later by Kambajulire, the project that would carry his breakout single.
He names Coolio, Mobb Deep, and Tanzanian Bongo Flava artist Lumix among his biggest influences, and it shows in a catalogue that moves between boom-bap rap and Uganda's trap wave. Teeba writes almost entirely as a freestyle artist — mood-dependent, no fixed method — and describes his own genre as "Real Life Experience": bars about what he's actually lived through, past, present, and future. He calls his defining skill simply "pen game." His range has kept stretching, too: a 2025 single, "Ebivuga," is tagged Afrobeat/Amapiano rather than straight rap, a genre detour outside the boom-bap-to-trap lane the rest of his catalogue runs on.
"Side Zeno," the lead single off Kambajulire, won Song of the Year at the inaugural UG Hip Hop Awards in 2015 and pulled heavy radio rotation across Kampala. Two years later he took home Artist of the Year at the 2017 UG Hip Hop Awards and signed to Dustville Records, a deal he has since moved on from. He picked up Male Artiste of the Year again at the 2025 UG Hip Hop Awards, and closed that same year out with "Marinate," a 14-track studio album carrying tracks like "HipHop Mukyala" (with Akubaba and THE HOMMIE) — his biggest project since the mixtape era. Along the way he's recorded with artists who first inspired him, including Lumix, South Africa's Da L.E.S., and fellow Ugandan Navio.
"Side Zeno" remains his signature record, still the song most associated with his name a decade on — but "Marinate" (December 2025) is the current chapter, a full album rather than another single, and the clearest sign yet that the "opening the vault" he'd been promising has actually started. His mantra, "Omanyi Ekiriwo" — "you know what time it is" — sums up an artist who's been in the game since before most of his peers started. His dream features, tellingly, are Drake and Kendrick Lamar.
